Sunday Night Highlight: Ochsner Health and Team Gleason Announce Partnership
With the pace of news ever increasing, it is easy to miss some of the positive wins and momentum coming from the New Orleans region. To help mitigate this “good news gap,” every Sunday we will send out a brief “Sunday Night Highlight,” profiling a win, partner, or stat of which we are proud. For the inaugural Sunday Night Highlight, we are profiling the recently announced partnership between Ochsner Health and Team Gleason. Ochsner and Team Gleason have announced a relationship to enhance healthcare, clinical research and care, technology and equipment solutions, and other resources for those living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neurological disorders.
With the deal, the new Team Gleason Assistive Technology Lab will be built in the recently announced Debra H. and Robert J. Patrick Neuroscience Center, a destination care center for neurologic diseases. This lab is specifically designed to replicate at-home living spaces, to help patients facing ALS and other conditions learn how to use cutting-edge equipment and technology for increased independence, mobility, communication, and safety. Speech language pathologists and occupational therapists will guide patients and their caregivers in the Lab, finding solutions and technology to meet their specific needs, as well as providing ongoing education and resources throughout their ALS journey.
Further, the Team Gleason Foundation will relocate its office to Benson Tower, allowing the team to work alongside Ochsner Ventures, [innovationOchsner]innovationOchsner (iO), and the Ochsner Connected Health teams, enhancing collaborative opportunities. The Benson Tower location, located in BioDistrict New Orleans, allows for Team Gleason to continue to expand its resources to meet the growing need for their specialized care services in the heart of the city’s BioDistrict, a growing hub for biomedical job growth and investments.
The Ochsner Health / Team Gleason partnership directly supports GNO, Inc.’s “NeuroNOLA” strategy, which aims for Greater New Orleans to become a hub for destination healthcare related to neurologic diseases – the “M.D. Anderson of Neurology.” The result will be not only lives improved and saved, but thousands of jobs created (the Texas Medical Center in Houston supports over 100,000) GNO, Inc. is also a board member and strategic supporter of the BioDistrict.
