GNO, Inc. Sunday Night Highlight – Big Future Energy Energy

Last week, GNO, Inc. and multiple regional, state, and federal partners made two major announcements that bring Louisiana tangibly closer to our vision of the state as an international hub of an “all-of-the-above” energy future.

1) Woodland Biofuels

  • Canadian company Woodland Biofuels announced a $1.35 billion investment at the Port of South Louisiana to establish the largest renewable natural gas plant in the world
  • The facility will take waste wood and sugar cane (bagasse), and turn it into natural gas
  • The process will be carbon-negative, leaving less carbon in the atmosphere than before the gas was produced
  • The company expects to create 110 direct new jobs with an average annual salary of more than $90,000. Louisiana Economic Development estimates that the project will result in 259 indirect new jobs, and Woodlands Biofuels estimates that the project will create approximately 500 construction jobs
  • Partners on the project included Louisiana Economic Development, GNO, Inc., Entergy, Port of South Louisiana, CSRS, and St. John the Baptist Parish
  • A video of Woodland Biofuels CEO Greg Nuttall’s remarks on why the company chose Louisiana can be seen here: https://vimeo.com/1010600517/b65103deea

2) Louisiana Future Energy Center

  • The Louisiana Future Energy Center, located at the Beach at UNO, will be the physical and symbolic headquarters of the “all-of-the-above” future energy movement for Louisiana
  • On Tuesday afternoon, partners from across GNO, Inc.’s H2theFuture initiative were joined by representatives from the U.S. Economic Development Administration and energy industry leaders for a groundbreaking ceremony for the Louisiana Future Energy Center
  • The Louisiana Future Energy Center will include private offices, research space, coworking space, and event areas, creating an environment where private industry, researchers, government, and others will come together to establish Louisiana as the global center for future energy
  • The Louisiana Future Energy Center design was led by EskewDumezRipple+ and construction bids will open by the end of 2024. Construction, slated for completion in fall 2026, is progressing alongside several enhancements at The Beach campus, including renovations to the Lindy Boggs Conference Center, building upgrades, and new landscape features.

Since 2018, the State of Louisiana has seen $60B in planned investments for future energy projects – from oil, to gas, to hydrogen, to wind, and beyond – with the potential to create 27,000 high-paying new jobs.
