GNO, Inc. Sunday Night Highlight – Neither Rain, Nor Snow… Washington Mardi Gras
The biggest snowstorm in over 100 years wasn’t enough to stop scores of Louisianians from making it to Washington DC for last week’s “Washington Mardi Gras,” an annual conclave of business, politics, and culture. The GNO, Inc. team braved a blizzard of flight cancellations to attend, and hosted a number of important events:
- Louisiana Future Energy Lunch – A discussion of the generational opportunity for Louisiana to create jobs at home, while powering the world via an “all-of-the-above” strategy that balances increasing demand with lower carbon intensity. A panel included ExxonMobil, Heirloom (direct air capture), and Port Fourchon (Louisiana’s primary offshore support port). You can see more about Louisiana Future Energy here
- National Catastrophic Insurance – Meetings with insurance and policy experts, as GNO, Inc. and partners begin to explore the necessity and possible structure of an all-perils insurance program for Louisiana, and the nation. You can read a good background story on the issue from the WSJ here
- Washington Mardi Gras Economic Development Luncheon – The premier political event of the week, this year’s Economic Development Luncheon was chaired by Congressman Troy Carter, with GNO, Inc. as host. The event included:
- Remarks from our Louisiana Congressional Delegation, including Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Senator Bill Cassidy, Senator John Kennedy, Congressman Troy Carter, Congressman Clay Higgins, and Congresswoman Julia Letlow (Rep. Cleo Fields was unable to attend)
- Remarks by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries
- Remarks from Governor Jeff Landry and Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois
- In honor of Super Bowl LIX, an NFL “All-Star” panel, including:
- Drew Brees
- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell
- NFL Chief Security Officer, Cathy Lanier
- A special appearance by the Lombardi trophy🏆
Louisiana Economic Development produced a “Louisiana: What You Need to Know” card for Washington Mardi Gras. It is worth a read:
