GNO, Inc. Sunday Night Highlight – Louisiana Future Energy ⚡️
As of May 2025, Louisiana has announced over $61 billion in energy and clean energy projects since January 2024, positioning the state as the “once and future” leader in energy investment and job creation. Major developments include:
- Woodside Energy‘s $17.5 billion LNG facility in Calcasieu Parish
- Meta’s $10 billion AI data center in Richland Parish
- Venture Global’s $18 billion LNG expansion in Plaquemines Parish
Specific clean energy initiatives include:
- Woodland Biofuels’ $1.4 billion renewable natural gas and hydrogen plant in St. John Parish
- Monarch Energy‘s $426 million green hydrogen facility in Ascension Parish
- AtmosClear’s $800 million carbon removal project in Baton Rouge, with Microsoft
The above projects are expected to generate nearly 14,000 construction jobs and over 1,400 permanent direct jobs, bolstering Louisiana’s economy and advancing its “all-of-the-above” energy strategy.
Underscoring the importance of these energy projects, a just-released study from LMOGA – performed by ULL economist Stephen Barnes, PhD. – shows Louisiana’s energy industry now generates:
- 25% of the state’s total economy, valued at $78 billion annually
- 306,750 energy jobs, or 15% of the state’s total employment
- $26 billion in annual total statewide earnings, or 19% of total earnings
- $1.1 billion in local property taxes paid in FY24
- $3.5 billion, or 20% of FY24 state taxes, licenses and fees
To capitalize on this economic wave, GNO, Inc. and partners are building the Louisiana Future Energy Center at UNO, scheduled to open in 2026.
