National Engineering Week 2026

In celebration of National Engineering Week and NASA’s Artemis II mission, students from across the Greater New Orleans region are invited to participate in a rocket design competition focused on creativity, engineering, and the future of space exploration.

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

  • Authenticity

  • Originality

  • Design

All submissions must be original student work. Any plagiarism or use of AI for the design or written essay will result in immediate disqualification.

Who Can Participate

The competition is open to students enrolled in schools across the Greater New Orleans region in the following divisions:

  • Elementary School, grades K–4

  • Middle School, grades 5–8

  • High School, grades 9–12

Competition Timeline

  • Competition opens January 26, 2026

  • Submissions due February 13, 2026

  • Winners announced the week of February 16, 2026

  • Awards presented February 25, 2026, National Engineers Day

What to Submit

Elementary School (K–4)
Students must submit a 3D rocket design as an STL file and a short essay of at least 150 words explaining why space exploration is important.

Middle and High School (5–12)
Students must submit an isometric or orthographic sketch with dimensions, a 3D rocket design as an STL file, and an essay of at least 350 words explaining why space exploration is important.

Awards & Recognition

One winner will be selected from each division.

Student winners, along with their school principal and teacher or club moderator, will receive an invitation to NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility for an awards presentation on February 25, 2026.

Winning schools will receive a Bambu Lab P1S 3D printer. Student winners from each division will receive a scholarship.
