New Year’s Day Terror Attack
A few days following, the mood in New Orleans is a mix of sadness, anger, and determination. We know that the ISIS-inspired attack was on America, with the humanity and diversity of New Orleans as the high-profile symbol. Indeed, as the list of the victims has emerged, it is a cross-section of our country, and visitors to our country. But at the same time, this is a very local and personal crime. We send our deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and all those whose lives have been forever changed by this act of evil.
The bravery of NOPD and our first responders prevented a worse tragedy. And the skill and dedication of the University Medical Center team and others who provided critical care saved many lives. We salute and thank them.
We know that New Orleans is not alone; support has poured in from around the world. If you would like to help:
- The Greater New Orleans Foundation has set up a fund to assist victims and survivors. To donate, please visitĀ gnof.org
- UMC and the Spirit of Charity Foundation have launched theĀ NOLA Strong Fund
Our business and tourism communities are united with all local, state, and federal partners to continue making New Orleans a great and safe city to live, work, visit, and invest. A single act of evil will not deter us. If anything, it has only strengthened our resolve and love for this community.
