New Orleans a top area for job hunting
New Orleans is in the top 15 best metro areas for job seekers, according to the employment web site Indeed.com.
New Orleans comes in at 14th. Factors include how favorable the local labor market is for job hunters, average salaries, and what kind of work/life balance the region offers. That’s an area where New Orleans scored particularly well, showing up in the top ten.
“We are a rapidly growing job market,” said GNO Inc. President Michael Hecht.
Hecht says people who are thinking of making a career move should give New Orleans a shot — and locally, he said leaders need to make sure people know about these openings.
“We have to make sure that these job opportunities get out broadly to the entire community, so that everybody has a chance to apply for these jobs,” Hecht said, “and to create wealth for themselves and their families.”
San Jose, California, in the heart of the Silicone Valley tech region, came in at number one, with nearby San Francisco at number two. Tech is an area where Hecht says New Orleans now excels.
“We are the fastest growing technology sector in the entire country,” said Hecht. “We are actually top five for women participating in this sector, and for African-Americans. So we have what I call ‘inclusive innovation.'”
Hecht said the region also does well for chemical manufacturing, and it’s also number one growth in health care.
“And that ranges everything from nurses to technicians, to…specialists,” Hecht said.
