GNO, Inc. Sunday Night Highlight – Super Bowl LIX #2 Biggest Impact of All Time
At an event earlier this week, Saints owner Gayle Benson, Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois, the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, Super Bowl LIX Host Committee, and GNO, Inc. shared that Super Bowl LIX generated a massive $1.25 billion in statewide economic activity, making it the second most financially impactful Super Bowl in NFL history, and more than double the impact of the 2013 game hosted in New Orleans. This calculation was derived from a newly released study from Louisiana State University, authored by Professor Dek Terrell and economist Nikolas J. Henderson. Highlights of the report included:
- The Super Bowl supported 9,787 Louisiana jobs, generated $395 million in wages, and contributed $83 million in state and local tax revenue
- 115,000 attended the week-long celebration in New Orleans, with 100,000 traveling in from 45 states and abroad
- 75% of visitors stayed more than three nights, driving record-breaking revenue across hotels, restaurants, and cultural attractions
- Globally, nearly 128 million viewers tuned in across platforms, the largest audience for a Super Bowl in over a decade
- The Louisiana NOW Pavilion, a 14,000 sq. ft. immersive business hub, hosted over 4,000 business leaders, journalists, and stakeholders, launched Louisiana Innovation (LA.IO), and generated $6 million in media value
Beyond these direct economic impacts, Super Bowl LIX also delivered:
- Completion of more than 500 infrastructure projects, totaling $70 million, including roads, lighting, drainage, and beautification, through coordinated state and local efforts, led by GNO, Inc.
- The opportunity to audition for the next Super Bowl in New Orleans – currently under discussion – as well as other future sports events, conventions, and tourists
- A chance to show the world a New Orleans that is accessible, safe, and utterly unique – one of the truly great cities of the world
