GNO, Inc. Sunday Night Highlight – Holy Film Deal, Batman! New Orleans Animation Studio Lands Deal with DC Studios and Warner Brothers
Jefferson Parish-based animation company Swaybox Studios, which created a famous ad for the 2022 Super Bowl, has landed a full-length motion picture deal with DC Studios and Warner Brothers to create Dynamic Duo, a coming-of-age story about Batman’s iconic sidekick, Robin.
What sets Swaybox apart from traditional animation houses is their revolutionary “Momo animation” technique, a unique blend of live puppetry, stop-motion, and CGI effects that has never before been seen in a full-length feature film. Co-founded by New Orleans music veterans Theresa Andersson and Arthur Mintz, Swaybox has evolved from an experimental puppetry troupe to a cutting-edge animation powerhouse. With Dynamic Duo, Swaybox will employ 240 people during the three-year production.
The style of Dynamic Duo, says Andersson, may revolutionize future animation. The creative team at Swaybox has perfected an art form that combines elements of live puppetry, stop-action, and computer-generated effects. Andersson says that the style, called “Momo animation,” has never been seen before in a full-length movie. Swaybox was founded in 2013 in Shreveport, where recently Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson announced the launch of G-Unit Studios, the second-largest African American-owned film and television studio in the United States.
