GNO, Inc. Sunday Night Highlight – Greater New Orleans’ Workforce Opportunity 🎓

More than 300 education, workforce and industry leaders gathered at the InterContinental New Orleans on Thursday for the 2026 GNOu Summit, GNO, Inc.’s signature conference connecting the region’s educators and workforce leaders with local employers.

The day opened with a look at the local economy and the workforce opportunity ahead. Since 2021, GNO, Inc. has announced 58 projects representing more than $51 billion in capital investment and thousands of new jobs, with an average salary of $75,500.

Four sectors are driving that growth:

  • Energy, led by nearly $49 billion in investment from projects including Venture Global, Chalmette Refining, ElementUSA, and Sicona
  • Defense, with Bollinger and Textron expanding alongside emerging technologies from Saronic and the new Gulf Coast Defense Catalyst
  • Aerospace, anchored by Michoud, NASA’s Artemis program, and the new Starlab space station
  • Trade, where the $2B Louisiana International Terminal and adjacent LIT Transportation Corridor is poised to reshape regional cargo activity

That growth brings a challenge, and an opportunity: Greater New Orleans is attracting investment faster than it is preparing enough workers. Many educators and job seekers remain unfamiliar with the companies and industries creating jobs. Meanwhile, veterans, justice-impacted residents and opportunity youth represent an opportunity for connection to high-wage, high-demand careers.

The GNOu Summit put employers, educators, and workforce leaders in the same room to address those gaps. Sessions focused on preparing workers for aerospace and advanced manufacturing, meeting growing freight and maritime needs, recruiting military-connected talent, adapting education to artificial intelligence, and connecting justice-impacted residents with employers.

The Summit concluded with the unveiling of GNOu Launch, a new initiative that equips educators with industry knowledge, workforce resources and direct connections to employers. The program builds on GNOu’s ongoing work connecting education and industry to develop new training programs, including maritime training at Nunez Community College, advanced manufacturing programs with Northshore Technical Community College and Southeastern Louisiana University, and skilled-trades training with Nunez and the Plaquemines Parish School Board.
