GNO, Inc. Releases 2019 Coastal Jobs Report

NEW ORLEANS — As the economic development alliance for the 10-parish Greater New Orleans region, GNO, Inc. consistently seeks to provide clarity and vision around emerging industry sectors and career pathways. And that’s why we are releasing our 2019 Coastal Jobs Report.

Because the water management sector is an emerging industry, varying methodologies exist when it comes to measuring the scope of the sector. This report sets out to build upon previously published research including reports published by the Brookings Institute, Louisiana State University and the New Orleans Data Center.

This report sets out to shed light on how many jobs will be created in coastal restoration – primarily through the Coastal Master Plan – and the skills necessary for a worker to succeed in the sector.

Our analysis includes an outline of the jobs and skills associated with the three distinct phases of coastal restoration projects in Greater New Orleans:

1. Planning, Engineering, and Design
2. Construction
3. Operation and Maintenance

The research used to develop this report focused on the jobs that match up with activities outlined in the 2017 Louisiana Coastal Master Plan. The occupations and estimates contained within are intended to drive institutional investment in the creation and expansion of programming to develop a trained workforce that will bring our state’s vision for the coast to fruition.
