Amazon Teams Up with Louisiana to Create Degree

Last Wednesday, Governor John Bel Edwards and Ken Eisner, Director of Worldwide Education Programs for Amazon Web Services (AWS), announced that Amazon will be partnering with all the two-year Community and Technical Colleges in Louisiana.

In an initiative facilitated by GNO, Inc., through its “GNOu” program, each of the 12 Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) schools will be implementing “AWS Educate,” Amazon’s global effort to support cloud learning for students and faculty across the world. The result will be an Associate Degree in Cloud Computing. This degree will help Louisianaians work for any technology companies seeking employees with cloud computing skills (i.e., nearly all of them).

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms to individuals, companies and governments. It is the fastest growing part of Amazon, as the entire computer industry migrates to the cloud. “By embedding the AWS Educate program to create a cloud degree program across the State of Louisiana at all LCTCS institutions, Louisiana is providing students with an on-ramp to innovation and careers in the cloud,” said Eisner. “We applaud Gov. Edwards and Greater New Orleans, Inc. for providing this workforce development opportunity for all of its students, from its urban centers to its rural communities.”
