Greater New Orleans Region One Center for STEM

Greater New Orleans, Inc. (GNO, Inc.) has been designated as the Region 1 STEM Network Center by the Louisiana Board of Regents LaSTEM Advisory Council and will represent Southeast Louisiana in this capacity.

GNOrocs (Greater New Orleans Region One Center for STEM) is one of nine regional STEM Network Centers, which operate as a system of STEM leadership entities strategically positioned across Louisiana to improve access to STEM education, participation, and advancement. This includes closing the opportunity gap for underserved and underrepresented populations to engage in Louisiana’s STEM workforce.

GNOrocs Goals

The goal of GNOrocs is to reduce the STEM gap within our community by creating an interconnected ecosystem with K-12, higher education, and business and industry to develop a robust, talented pipeline of highly skilled workers that will retain and attract business to the Greater New Orleans region.

GNOrocs is built upon the following foundational beliefs:

  • STEM literacy transcends across all learning and should be a focus area for all students
  • STEM education transcends the confines of school buildings and is an integral part of our current and future community
  • Our success depends upon developing a cohesive ecosystem between educators, students, families, postsecondary providers, legislators, businesses, and industry.

Mini Grant Program

GNOrocs has created a STEM Mini grant program for non-profit organizations operating in the Greater New Orleans region. The goal of this grant program is to strengthen our region wide efforts to promote an equitable STEM community throughout our 7-parish area. This funding is provided by the LaSTEM Board of Regents to assist with cultivating a robust STEM ecosystem in Region 1.

Interested organizations will be able to apply starting September 14, 2026. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of Region 1 STEM Center Advisors.
