Report: New Orleans emerging among top tech hubs in North America

A new report calls New Orleans of the top 12 leading cities for high technology jobs in North America. Greater New Orleans, Inc cites a report by market analytics firm Emsi as citing “New Orleans is not only a top tech hub, it is also one of the most inclusive.” Emsi found area is ranked second in the nation for the percentage of women in technology jobs in the U.S. and seventh in the nation for the percentage of African-Americans working in technology jobs.

Meanwhile, a report from Business Analytics lists New Orleans number four on a list of the top 12 technology hubs in North America. Business Analytics says “The progress of Greater New Orleans over the past decade has been rapid and dramatic; in fact, it has been called “one of the great turnarounds in American history.”

The report points to a successful mix of low cost/high culture attitudes toward business growth. Companies locating to the region point to Louisiana’s Digital Media Incentive and generous tax credits of 25-percent on payrolls and 18-percent on expenditures for setting off a tech boom in the state.

Nearly 100 new or established tech companies are in New Orleans. This includes companies like GE Digital, DXC Technology, inXile Entertainment, Accurent, and High Voltage Software. And as “Hollywood South”, New Orleans holds a dominant position in film and television production thanks to the Qualified Entertainment Credit provides up to 20 percent in rebates for non-production payroll expenses.
