Company hired to help build New Orleans’ music business

New Orleans has another partner in its economic development efforts to support local musicians.

London-based strategic consultancy firm Sound Diplomacy, which works with local governments to develop music strategies and policies, is putting its first U.S. office in New Orleans, a news release from GNO Inc. said.

GNO Inc. hired the company in January to help with its recently launched New Orleans Music Economy Initiative. The initiative aims to make it more profitable for local musicians to stay in New Orleans. Many have gone outside Louisiana to hire managers, publishers, agents, labels and other professional and creative services.

Sound Diplomacy will manage a 12-month process to deliver a plan for building a more robust music economy, the news release said.

The new Sound Diplomacy office will open later this year, and the company is currently recruiting local staff, the news release said. It did not specify a location or how many workers will be employed locally.

IberiaBank and the entertainment division for Louisiana Economic Development have also signed on to the New Orleans Music Economy Initiative. So have The Helis Foundation, New Orleans & Co., Loyola University, Louisiana Entertainment, the Downtown Development District, NOISE Fest, New Orleans Business Alliance.
