Ampirical Solutions to build new headquarters on North Shore

St. Tammany Parish-based Ampirical Solutions LLC said Thursday it’s building a 78,000-square-foot corporate headquarters near Covington and creating 400 new direct jobs over the next 10 years.

Ampirical, an electrical infrastructure firm created in Mandeville after Hurricane Katrina, said it will consolidate its existing St. Tammany Parish locations into the new office building. Ampirical specializes in electrical infrastructure engineering, design and construction management. It caters to the design and construction of electrical substations and switchyards, protective relays and controls, transmission lines, distributions lines and related infrastructure. Customers include investor-owned utilities, municipalities, industrial plants, electrical cooperatives and independent power producers.

The company’s new jobs will have an average yearly salary of more than $85,000, a news release said. It plans to retain 120 existing jobs. The build-out is expected to create about 350 construction jobs and result in a $20 million capital investment.

The new facility will be three stories tall and located at the northwest corner of La. 21 and Interstate 12. The project, positioned on a 5.5-acre site, is expected to be completed by the end of 2020. Other acreage is available for future potential expansion, the news release said.

The announcement came a day after Medline Industries Inc., an Illinois-based health care supplier, said it plans to build an 800,000-square-foot distribution center in the same area, creating more than 460 new direct jobs in St. Tammany Parish. The project, which received approval for a zoning change, had received opposition from nearby residents concerned it will increase traffic congestion.

Louisiana Economic Development began discussions with Ampirical about a potential corporate headquarters project in June 2017. Greater New Orleans Inc. helped with real estate options, cost comparisons and incentives. St. Tammany Corporation helped Ampirical implement development plans for growing the company on the North Shore.

Ampirical is expected to benefit from Louisiana’s Quality Jobs Program. No other incentives were announced in the news release.

Matthew Saacks, president of Ampirical, said the company recruits professional talent from across the nation and in St. Tammany Parish.
