A pitch contest for minority-owned businesses joins expanding Entrepreneur Week roster

A groundswell of entrepreneurial pitch contests in New Orleans is about to enter full flower with the Entrepreneur Week festival over the next seven days, and another business contest, called inNOLAvation and aimed at minority business founders, has announced its finalists. Six firms will compete for $30,000 in cash and services on Tuesday.

Lockheed Martin Corp. will soon begin producing liquefied natural gas tanks at the Michoud Assembly Facility in eastern New Orleans, a move that will create 166 new jobs and increase occupancy at the plant that has looked to find new life after the discontinuation of the space shuttle program.

Lockheed Martin Announces Liquefied Natural Gas Project Creating 166 New Direct Jobs In New Orleans

Gov. Bobby Jindal and Lockheed Martin IS & GS-Defense President Gerry Fasano announced Lockheed Martin will make a $3 million capital investment at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility to manufacture cryogenic tanks for liquefied natural gas (LNG). The LNG tanks, which initially will be used for ship propulsion, are part of Lockheed Martin’s increased emphasis on converting defense technology to commercial applications. The project will create 166 new direct jobs and another 236 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 400 new direct and indirect jobs.
