Greater New Orleans Online Training/Continuing Education Courses, Coronavirus Era

GNO, Inc. is supporting efforts of the region’s higher education partners during these times. To that end, we will be highlighting specific work underway in the following areas, as schools in Greater New Orleans are currently offering free and reduced training and education programs.:

  • Publicly Accessible Online Training/Continuing Education:  As our regional workforce is experiencing increased layoffs, income instability and career uncertainty, GNO, Inc. will catalogue and promote any/all opportunities for online training from the region’s higher education partners and private training providers.
  • Best Practices/Early Successes:  Crisis leads to creativity and new ways of serving students, faculty and the general public. GNO, Inc. will catalogue and promote any partnerships or initiatives that have emerged in the last several weeks to highlight the great work the region’s higher education partners are undergoing to combat the coronavirus and provide opportunities for career advancement to the citizens in the region.

Publicly Accessible Online Training/Continuing Education

  • Delgado Community College
    • SBA/Delgado Partnership 
      • Delgado is supporting the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Louisiana District Office in hosting an online learning experience for Louisiana based small businesses. Faculty is providing online business continuity and emergency management education to small businesses affected by the COVID-19 disaster; and, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Louisiana District Office is leading a series of webinars on how to apply for an SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan.Delgado’s Scope:
        • Create a course in the College’s learning management system, Canvas
        • Develop a learning module to educate local business about business continuity management (BCM) best practices
        • Manage course registration
        • Provide technical support to partners and small businesses using Canvas
        • Upload and manage course content
    • City of New Orleans BuildNOLA
      • Delgado Community College, in partnership with the City of New Orleans’ Office of Supplier Diversity, manages BuildNOLA, a business management education and technical assistance program to develop sustainable and financially stronger business enterprises in the Greater New Orleans area.
        This program is designed to equip businesses with the necessary information and education to successfully compete for public and private contracting opportunities. Previous program participants increased their revenues, created jobs, and reinvested in the local economy.Business development services provided under this program are non-financial resources and support available to new small businesses and microenterprises as well as existing small businesses seeking to expand.Services include assistance in areas such as marketing, management, finance and strategic planning.

        The program consists of twelve (12) consecutive course modules presented online over six (6) months. Modules will cover the following topics that impact the growth of a business:

        • Business Plan Development
        • Fundamentals of Business Accounting
        • Cash Flow Management
        • Financial Decision Making
        • Credit Counseling
        • Human Resource Management
        • Estimating and Bidding
        • Risk Management Planning
        • Best Practices of Project Management
        • Teaming and Joint Venture Agreements
        • Marketing
        • Business Technology Services
        • Loan Application Preparation
        • Bonding Application Preparation
        • Local Public Agencies Purchasing Processes (City of New Orleans, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Port of New Orleans, New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, New Orleans Aviation Board, etc.)
  • Southeastern Louisiana University
    • Southeastern can offer three AWS certifications for FREE. They will be 100% on-line and the only cost to the person will be the cost of taking the exam through AWS. The three courses are:
      • AWS Foundations (Capacity 30, potentially more)
      • AWS Solutions Architecture (Capacity 30, potentially more)
      • AWS Analytics (Capacity 30, potentially more)

  • Northshore Technical Community College
    • Please visit our college website at northshorecollege.eduand select our COVID-19 College Update link for the latest information on our response to the pandemic and our efforts to keep our students engaged in workforce training.
    • In addition to college precautions and implementation of our telecommuting policy for faculty and staff and instructional disruption policy for students, Dr. William Wainwright is in communication with healthcare CEO’s to provide any and all support within our capability. For example, as of Friday March 20thour college has inventoried all PPE in every healthcare program at every campus and delivered PPE to the following locations:
      • North Oaks Health System: Provided by Livingston and Hammond Area Campuses
      • Hood Memorial Hospital: Provided by Florida Parishes Campus
      • Our Lady of the Angels: Provided by Sullivan Campus
      • Slidell Memorial: Provided by Lacombe Campus
    • In addition, on Friday, March 20th, NTCC delivered and established their college GATOR STEM Laboratory on site at Slidell Memorial Hospital Ochsner Health Network to provide doctors and first responders a state-of-the-art lab for use in direct support of serving the community.
