Search Influence “Onshores” Jobs from India to New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS — Today, Greater New Orleans, Inc., the economic development alliance for the 10-parish Greater New Orleans region, announced that New Orleans-based website promotion company Search Influence recently added 13 new jobs to its New Orleans office. By participating in the Enterprise Zone program, the company was able to “onshore” these jobs from India.
“Our staff in India was an integral part of our team,” said Will Scott, Founder and President of Search Influence. “We coordinated with a conference call every day, which was key to our early success; ultimately, the time difference and logistics of communication proved too challenging at crucial times. By shifting these jobs to New Orleans, we’ve increased profitability, decreased logistical issues and—most importantly—supported the local economy.”
By moving these positions from India to New Orleans, Search Influence joins a trend of companies repatriating jobs. Some of the reasons companies—large and small—have begun to shift these positions from overseas include unrealized savings, decreases in customer satisfaction, lack of control and logistical issues.
“The fact is that Louisiana and Greater New Orleans offer great value to companies: with excellent business conditions, outstanding labor value and aggressive incentives, more and more companies are beginning to see the advantage of ‘coming home,’” said Michael Hecht, President and CEO of GNO, Inc. “Search Influence is the vanguard of a trend that will only grow; Will Scott could have grown his business anywhere in the world, and he chose Greater New Orleans. Many others will follow.”
GNO, Inc. assisted Search Influence with its transition by helping the company utilize Louisiana Economic Development’s incentives and state tax credits to move these jobs to New Orleans. The Enterprise Zone program is a jobs incentive program that provides income and franchise tax credits to eligible Louisiana businesses.
“Working with GNO, Inc. has been a tremendous boon to our business, and we’re still hiring,” said Scott. “The tax credits have allowed us to hire more staff and develop more accounts.”
Search Influence, which provides its customers with full-service internet and social media marketing, currently has 26 full-time employees and 36 contractors that serve over 1,000 locally focused businesses across the United States and abroad, both directly and as an outsourcing provider to major national companies. The company plans to expand up to a total of 40 full-time and 50 contract employees by the end of this year.
“This announcement is indicative of the kind of economic momentum we’re seeing here in New Orleans,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “We are committed to improving the quality of life so that we can add jobs and grow the economy, especially in growing sectors like technology. GNO, Inc. and companies like Search Influence are key partners in that effort.”
Search Influence has built a reputation as a top-five local search expert in the United States. The company has grown to become the largest online marketing firm on the Gulf Coast and is recognized as a national leader in social media for local business.
As a growing technology company, Search Influence joins a long list of startups finding success in southeastern Louisiana. Companies in digital media, film and online marketing have taken advantage of the state’s favorable tax credits to help grow their businesses.
