Vol. 32: GE Capital – A Win for the Region

Last month, GNO, Inc. and partners announced that GE Capital has selected Greater New Orleans for its first IT Center of Excellence, over dozens of other locations around the country.

GE’s decision to place the GE Capital Technology Center in Greater New Orleans is deeply significant, on many levels:

    • First, it will create hundreds of high-paying jobs – an average salary of near $100,000.
    • Second, it will bolster our surging tech industry, currently the fastest growing in the USA.
    • Third, it demonstrated the remarkable public/private and city/state/federal teamwork that is now a major competitive advantage.
    • But most of all, GE’s decision – following a deep year-plus vettingprocess – serves as priceless validation for our region and state. When Brackett Denniston, a member of the GE’s Executive Committee, states that “This place is what’s best in America,” America listens

To help celebrate this recent win, as well as the regionalism that made it possible, we hosted the GNO, Inc. Annual Meeting, “Regionalism Restated,” earlier today. With the help of our sponsors, over 900 members of the Greater New Orleans business community joined us at the Sheraton New Orleans to celebrate our region’s wins for 2011.
