GNO, Inc. and BRAC Announce Destination, Dates, and Co-Chairpersons for SRC Canvas 2015

NEW ORLEANS — Greater New Orleans, Inc. (GNO, Inc.) and the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) today announced that the Super Region Committee (SRC) Canvas Workshop will take place April 19-21, 2015 in the Greater Phoenix and Tucson regions of Arizona. For the second time, GNO, Inc. will collaborate with BRAC, its regional economic development counterpart in the Baton Rouge area, to execute this workshop. As in previous years, a delegation of business and civic leaders from the Southeast Louisiana Super Region, consisting of Greater Baton Rouge, Greater New Orleans, and the Houma-Thibodaux region, will spend three days and two nights in sister cities to learn about progress in addressing critical topics from a regional perspective. Details and registration can be found at www.srccanvas.com.

“GNO, Inc. is thrilled to be working once again with our super-regional partner, BRAC, on a national benchmarking trip,” said Michael Hecht, president and CEO of GNO, Inc. “While the Southeast Super Region has made great strides in recent years, there is clearly a lot more for us to learn by studying best practices in other coordinated regions around the country.”

GNO, Inc. named Jim Hudson, chairman of the Southeast region of IBERIABANK, as its official chairperson for Greater New Orleans. Similarly, BRAC has named John Paul Funes, president and chief executive officer of Our Lady of the Lake Foundation, as chairperson for the Baton Rouge area.

“Canvas trips offer an opportunity for senior business and community leaders to envision the future of our super region by looking at another strong point of comparison,” said Adam Knapp, president and chief executive officer of BRAC. “Our first trip with GNO, Inc. was an amazing success. We are excited to continue to work closely with our friends in the metro New Orleans business community to look at best practices in the Greater Phoenix and Tucson regions of Arizona.”

In 2013, GNO, Inc. and BRAC hosted the inaugural SRC Canvas in Central Florida.

Previous Canvas destinations have included Austin, Texas, in 2003; Nashville, Tennessee, in 2004; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, in 2006; Portland, Oregon, in 2007; Richmond, Virginia, in 2009; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2011; Louisville, Kentucky, in 2013; and Tampa/Orlando, Florida, in 2013.

Business leaders from Greater New Orleans, the Capital Region, and the Houma-Thibodeaux area are encouraged to register now at www.srccanvas.com, as space is limited.
