Discover Industry Sectors

An unprecedented level of activity in our region suggests a profound economic resurgence has begun. More than $20 billion is being invested in key industry sectors that will help drive our economy.

There should be no question that the 10-parish Greater New Orleans Region is open for business and is firmly focused on welcoming and supporting new investment and development.

Summaries of the strengths and opportunities for these sectors can be found on ensuing pages simply by clicking any of the specific sectors in the box to the right.

Targeted Sectors

In collaboration with our regional partners, GNO, Inc. completed an in-depth, site-selection based industry cluster analysis of the region. Taking into account our naturally competitive assets, existing and emerging sector strengths and projections, global market trends and community goals, we have identified the sectors with the highest growth potential in this region.

The analysis demonstrated that four sectors, especially, are uniquely poised for immediate and sustained development.

GNO, Inc. has launched an aggressive Economic Development Roadmap to support and market these industries. To learn more about any of these sectors or opportunities within them, click on the corresponding link in the box to the right or contact GNO, Inc. staff directly.

Supported Sectors

These industries are not traditional targets for regional economic development organizations due to their essentially local orientation. We recognize, however, that they do provide excellent job opportunities, are essential to quality of life and must be cultivated for the regional economy to grow. As the region continues to rebuild and invest in infrastructure in these three industries, new opportunities for research and development, specialized program development and value-added exports will emerge. These industries could eventually morph into target industries if they evolve specialized products and services for exportation from the region. GNO, Inc. will continue to provide support for these sectors with especially focusing on public policy and workforce advocacy.

There will continue to be opportunities for growth in these industries, particularly on a parish-by-parish basis, and efforts by particular parishes to retain their existing companies or exploit niche strengths will receive our strong support.
